Duncan Bannatyne invests into wine business

Bannatyne's membership's increase

HEALTH club faces angry members as prices soar for the second time in nine months.

Bannatyne’s Health Club increased the price of single memberships to £58 last April. Due to VAT rising, prices have soared to £60 leaving members furious.

A joining fee is also required , which is subject to change. Some are now considering quitting or moving gyms because of this.

Tim Fuller, a member of five years said: “ I work full-time and still can’t afford this amount monthly.

“I’d rather buy my own equipment and work out at home.”

January is known as the busiest month for memberships, but because of prices, Bannatyne’s haven’t had many newcomers.

Amelia Standen, a receptionist at the club added: “ Bannatyne’s is worth the money, it has state of the art equipment  and classes included.

“The VAT increase is out of our hands, we are hoping to offer more deals to new and existing customers.”

Taking into consideration the high rate of cancellations against the minority of new members, Bannatyne’s may not benefit from this.

Lance Payne, who cancelled last year said: “ I really enjoyed going to Bannatyne’s, its clean,  people are nice and the equipment was great.

“However I couldn’t afford it then, so there is no chance of me rejoining now.”
